Michael Sweeney is celebrating being named man of the meeting after three wins at Saturday’s Cookstown 100 road races.

He had wins in the two superbike races and the super twin race all of which were red flagged and restarted.

He opened his account in the open race which was restarted after an incident in the opening lap involving Mike Browne and Paul Jordan, both riders were taken to hospital but neither sustained any serious injuries. Sweeney won the restarted race taking the flag just over 3.5 seconds ahead of Adam McLean and Thomas Maxwell in third who was a further 7.38 seconds in areas.

The Skerries man followed this up with a win in the second running of the Supertwin class, this race was also red flagged when Adam Mclean crashed out on lap three at Craigmount while battling with Sweeney. Dominic Herberston was promoted into the runner up spot and Paul Williams was third.

Sweeney closed the day off with a win in the final outing of the meeting, the feature Superbike race. This started out with Adam McLean and Sweeney fighting for the lead over the opening laps, but mid distance McLean had his second off of the day which once again brought out the red flags. With Browne out due to his earlier off and McLean now out it was a reasonably easy win for Sweeney beating Thomas Maxwell in the shortened five lap restart by over three seconds and Richard Charlton taking the final place on the podium.

Mclean was a lights to flag winner of the supersport race, the pole man never looked hassled as he took the win six seconds in front of Mike Browne after yet another red flag incident on the seventh lap of the nine lap race involving Tommy Henry. The result being declared giving Paul Jordan third place.

Browne also had an unchallenged victory in the MOTO 3 class romping into the lead from the off and taking the chequered flag some tweet one seconds ahead of second place Eoin O’Siochru Nigel Moore was third.

Guy martin made a surprise appearance in the Senior Classic race and was favourite to take the win having put his BSA on pole in Fridays qualifying sessions but a mechanical issue meant he had to retire on lap four.

Barry Davidson took the win ahead of Andy Hornby in the junior classics.

Jack Oliver was the victor in the Senior Support race by the narrowest of margins, with just 0.2seconds between him and second place man Kellim Ryan.

The Junior Support it was Eoin O’Siochru who took the win.

Scotsman Kris Ducan won the Lightweight Supersport with a lead of 29.4 seconds ahead of David Howard and Alan Johnston.

Team mates Barry Davidson and Darryl Tweed were first and second in the Supersport 300 race.
