Andrea Locatelli believes that he can fight for top positions once again after dropping off the pace last time out in Misano.
Andrea Locatelli currently sits third place in the WorldSBK Championship which is only 62 points behind his team-mate, Toprak Razgatlioglu. Last time out at Locatelli's home race the Italian fell off the pace dramatically and finished 12th, 7th and 6th, which were his worst results of the season.
However, with attention now turning to Donington Park Locatelli believes he will be back at the front end of the pack once again. Last time WorldSBK raced at Donington Park in 2022 Locatelli finished 10th, 8th and 8th across the three races, which were the results that Locatelli tended to get last season.
Yamaha won all three races last year at Donington Park so a first podium on a Superbike at Donington is on the cards for Locatelli this weekend.
"It is great to be back in the UK," said Locatelli as he eagerly awaits the start of the British WorldSBK round. "Especially at Donington because it is an interesting track to ride! First and second sectors are really fast, then three and four is a little bit more technical: we have hard braking and no easy corners because we have two really slow corners at the end.
"It will also be interesting to see the circuit because it has new tarmac, for sure it will change the feeling and maybe a little bit the grip so we will see.
"If we can arrive ready with everything and find a good feeling to start, I think we can fight for a good position in Donington – it is a track where our bike is normally working very well.
"It’s my third time racing at this track now and I have a lot more experience with the R1, so I would like to finish more in front and challenge for the podium – it’s the target."
