Jonathan Rea has officially made the transition from Kawasaki to Yamaha as he pulled the wraps off the Yamaha R1 he will ride during a two-day post-season WorldSBK test at Jerez this week.
Following on from the final round of the 2023 WorldSBK season, Rea will get his chance to sample the Crescent Racing-prepared Yamaha R1 he will campaign in 2024 and 2025 in a special two-day test alongside new team-mates Andrea Locatelli, Dominique Aegerter and Remy Gardner.
The test has been made possible by Kawasaki allowing Rea to exit his deal early after nine seasons spent with the KRT outfit, a tenure that yielded a record 104 WorldSBK race wins, 221 podiums and six WorldSBK titles.
Though Yamaha has been afforded the privilege of Rea being released by his contract early by Kawasaki, the same cannot be said for the rider he replaces, Toprak Razgatlioglu.
His deal with Yamaha will expire as planned on 30th November, meaning his first test with BMW won't occur until December when he officially joins the German manufacturer.
