'My team trusted me when I wasn’t a podium finisher' - Huertas after winning the 2024 World Supersport Championship

Gold and Goose

After finishing third on Saturday, Adrian Huertas won the 2024 World Supersport Championship becoming the youngest Supersport Champion.

Adrian Huertas made history in the World Supersport Championship on Saturday as he won the 2024 World Supersport title. He is the youngest rider to win the title, taking the youngest-ever winner title away from the 2003 World Supersport Champion, Chris Vermeulen.

On his way to clinching the 2024 World Supersport title Huertas won 10 races and stood on a further eight podiums.

Discussing how it felt to be Champion, Huertas said: “I feel incredible, it’s been an incredible season because I have been fighting a lot. It’s not been easy in the last races because we had many problems. In the end, we did what we needed to do; stayed on the bike and scored points. This was really important for us and today we achieved the world title. It’s my second one. I feel incredible. I want to thank my team because they trusted me when I wasn’t even a podium finisher in this class. A lot of people said I wouldn’t be able to repeat what Nicolo did.”

Before the 2024 season Huertas had never stood on a World Supersport podium in his two years with Kawasaki. However, his first year with Ducati was completely different and he is now a World Supersport and World Supersport 300 Champion.

Talking about the history he made, Huertas said: “It’s difficult to do it better. We did a really good job in our first year with Ducati. It wasn’t an easy change, but we managed to do it well, win when we needed to and to stay behind when we needed to. I’m happy about that, happy about how I managed the season. I’m super, super proud because it’s not an easy change. We saw a lot of riders making the step and then not be competitive. I showed today you can be World Champion coming from WorldSSP300 and you can make a career here in WorldSBK from the beginning.”

Huertas will not be in the World Superbike paddock in the 2025 season. The Spanish superstar will switch to Moto2 with the Italtrans Moto2 Team as he replaces former Moto3 World Champion, Dennis Foggia.
