Andrea Locatelli could be on his way out of Yamaha after six years with the Japanese manufacturer.
In recent weeks, Andrea Locatelli's future with Yamaha has come under question as his contract with the Japanese manufacturer expires at the end of this season.
The Italian rider has appeared on manufacturers' shopping lists for the 2026 World Superbike season after he took a surprise victory at the Dutch World Superbike Round.
It has been reported that BMW officials and Locatelli's manager met at the Italian World Superbike Round to discuss a potential partnership for next season.
However, in a recent interview with WorldSBK.com, Locateli has admitted that he wants to 'be someone important for Yamaha'. However, he remained realistic and revealed that he would decide on 'the best option for his future'.
"When I arrived at Yamaha, I think my life changed a bit because I immediately won World Supersport in 2020," Locatelli told WorldSBK.com ahead of the Czech Republic World Superbike Round.
"We built my career with Yamaha, so I’d like to continue with them and maybe one day, be someone important for Yamaha. I feel like we have this possibility with Yamaha but, at the same time, I need to look at my career.
"We need to look at everything and understand which is the best option for me and my future. At the moment, I only want to think about riding the bike, giving my all, and winning with Yamaha."
Locatelli is the leading Yamaha in the World Superbike Championship as he finds himself fourth in the standings after four rounds. His closest rival from Yamaha is Remy Gardner, who finds himself in 11th place and 69 points behind Locatelli.
So far in 2025, Locatelli has featured on three podiums during the 12 races, his race win at Assen, a second place that he also claimed at Assen and a third place at Portimao.
