Xavi Vierge will undergo further medical checks after his Race Two crash

Gold & Goose

After being involved in a multi-ride crash at the Autodrom Most, Xavi Vierge must undergo further medical checks.

Xavi Vierge was one of the four riders caught up in the collision at the start of Race Two at the Czech Republic World Superbike Round.

The Spaniard was launched from his Honda CBR1000RR-R after Jonathan Rea made contact with Alvaro Bautista, which had a knock-on effect on Vierge.

After his big highside, Vierge was transported to the circuit medical centre. After initial checks, it is suspected that he has fractured the tarsus in his right foot, the ankle area of his right foot.

"Our day didn’t end as we expected after a very positive morning," Vierge said after the Czech Republic Round.

"The first goal was to finish the Superpole race inside the top nine, and we achieved that, showing very good pace and making a strong comeback to finish eighth. With that result, and considering our performance yesterday, we knew we had the potential to run another good Race Two.

"Unfortunately, my race ended almost immediately. Due to a mistake by another rider, I was hit at turn one and suffered a big highside. It looks like there’s something broken in my right foot, and tomorrow morning, I’ll go to see Dr. Mir in Barcelona for more comprehensive checks.

"Once again, I want to thank the team, we had another solid weekend, worked really well together, and both of us riders were competitive. That’s something very positive that we need to keep in mind. Now I’m just looking forward to understanding the situation and starting my recovery as soon as possible."

Rea was given a double long lap penalty for his involvement in the incident, and Vierge and Bautista both failed to finish the race after crashing. Alex Lowes' race was also impacted as he had to take evasive action and cut through the gravel to avoid the incident.
