Riders 'disappointed, torn' at Senior TT cancellation but side with decision

Dean Harrison

Dean Harrison and Davey Todd couldn't hide their disappointment at being denied the chance to contest victory in the Senior TT after inclement weather forced organisers to bring a premature end to the 2025 Isle of Man TT.

After a fortnight of persistent weather woes, the blue riband Senior TT - the centrepiece of the road racing festival - was cancelled on Saturday over concerns that a change in the wind direction made conditions too dicey for the competitors.

The decision, which was taken by the Clerk of the Course after consultation with the riders, proved inevitably disappointing for the riders but was ultimately one they supported.

"It is disappointing to end it this way,” double Superstock TT winner Harrison told Manx Radio.

“But I do back Gary 100% in what he has done and he makes the best decisions, as he has done all week.

“It’s difficult for everybody. I do feel for the fans out there because everyone comes here to watch motorbikes around the best track in the world.

“We want to ride around the best track in the world, but honestly it was as bad as everyone was saying out there.

“You’ve got damp patches, it’s just difficult. It’s half past seven at night, it’s cold. It is disappointing but upwards and onwards from here.”

Todd, who was aiming for a second straight Senior TT win having also won the Superbike TT earlier in the week, was also frustrated at having to play it safe while being desperate to compete.

“I’ve rode in much stronger wins mile-per-hour-wise, but I’ve never ridden experienced riding a bike like that. The conditions are crazy out there,” Todd also told Manx Radio.

“I’m so torn in my mind because it’s the race I wanted to win all week, the Senior, I wanted to come back and win that race again after winning it last year.

“We’ve had some bad luck this week and I just said to the boys and sponsors ‘don’t worry, we’re here to win the Senior and I’m so desperate to win that one’.

“I just feel like I got it taken away from me, but I know really it’s the right decision."
