'If Martin comes, it'll be a very good thing' - Honda boss comments on rumours surrounding Jorge Martin

Romano Albesiano spoke about the latest rumours surrounding Jorge Martin and his decision to join Honda for 2025.

Ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, the Honda HRC Castrol Technical Director, Romano Albesiano, has discussed his time with the Japanese manufacturer since leaving Aprilia at the end of 2024.

The Italian had to address the rumours surrounding reigning MotoGP World Champion, Jorge Martin. However, Albesiano was hesitant to go into details due to his prior relationship with Aprilia Racing.

"If Martin comes, for Honda it would be a very good thing," Albesiano told MotoGP.com.

"But it would be a bad thing for Aprilia, I am really fresh from that company so I would not like to comment at this point."

After 11 years with Aprilia Racing in MotoGP, Albesiano moved on from the Italian manufacturer after getting a 'superb' call from the Honda Racing Corporation.

"When the call from HRC came it was superb," he said.

"Honda is the biggest motorcycle manufacturer in the world. The way that people approach the job is different; it is another culture.

"For sure, I am bringing my own approach, let's say the European approach to the development and testing.

"I feel there is no revolution in this, you have to have a passion and to be creative, this has always been a characteristic of Honda."

Across the 2024 MotoGP World Championship, five Honda riders scored 123 points throughout the 20-round season.

However, Honda's improvements in 2025 have been clear to see as the Japanese manufacturer has scored 172 points across six riders in the opening eight rounds of the season.

Albesiano believes that the base package from 2024 was a decent bike, but it had some glaring issues that were fixed in the offseason.

"Honestly, looking at the results from last year I expected the bike to be no good," he explained.

"But when I interviewed the riders for the first time, I was surprised that most of the characteristics of the bike were positive. But some specific points were really negative, so this allowed us to attack those specific points.

"We have been able to improve the situation quite quickly, from last year to this year, the best improvement has been the torque delivery."
