Ahead of their World Superbike entry in 2027, Michelin is hoping to test their Superbike tyres in 2025, ahead of further tests in 2026.
It is now widely known that starting with the 2027 season, Michelin and Pirelli will swap places as the tyre suppliers for MotoGP and World Superbikes.
Pirelli will leave the World Superbike paddock and will become the sole tyre supplier for the MotoGP paddock across MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3, MotoE and the Road to MotoGP classes.
Whereas Michelin will go in the opposite direction as they leave the MotoGP paddock to enter the World Superbike paddock. The French tyre supplier will become the sole tyre supplier across Superbikes, Supersport, Sportbike and the Women's World Championship.
Michelin will not start its new Superbike journey from scratch, as they have continued work in the Endurance World Championship and several national Championships.
"We have a range of slick tires that are used in the French Championship and the Endurance World Championship. We also provide these tires to the MotoGP riders for their training," Piero Taramasso of Michelin told Speedweek.
"And whether on the Ducati Panigale V4S or the Aprilia RSV, they are very satisfied with them. I think this will be the basis from which we start development.
"We will try to coordinate a test with Dorna, which should take place as soon as possible. A test this year would be great so we can find out where we stand, followed by further tests in 2026."
Michelin is also aware that it will only be able to transfer a limited amount of knowledge from MotoGP for World Superbikes.
"The Superbike category is very different from MotoGP in terms of tire stress and weight. We won't be able to use today's tires," the manager added.
"Of course, we will be able to adopt certain knowledge and technologies, but the bikes are closer to the series, and our strategy will be based on that and won't be as extreme as for MotoGP."
