'We have to enjoy these weekends' - Alex Lowes reacts to his hat-trick of podiums at Magny-Cours

Gold & Goose

Alex Lowes was on the podium in all three races at Magny-Cours as he had his best weekend on the KB998 Rimini.

During the French World Superbike Round, Alex Lowes was able to feature on the podium in third place in all three races at Magny-Cours.

The bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team rider had a previous podium on the KB998 Rimini at Misano, and the British rider expected the bike to work well at the French circuit.

"It was a great weekend, three podiums is more than we could have hoped for," Lowes told WorldSBK.com.

"I expected that this track would suit the bike. I have always been pretty fast here as well. I am really, really happy, it was great.

"The highlight of my weekend, though, was the three laps I spent battling with Jonathan [Rea]. You know the respect I have for him. I wish we were fighting for the race win. But he is a fantastic rider, a good friend of mine, and I was really enjoying it.

"My bike was working a bit better than his, so I was able to get away from him. But I enjoyed the battle, I felt good in the race, in the second half, I still had grip when the other guys dropped off."

In Race Two, Lowes had a difficult start to the race due to the increased track temperature. However, he eventually got back to the podium fight when he realised he had an advantage over his rivals.

"It was quite hard work," he admitted when asked about the final race.

"But maybe from laps three to ten, I did not really know what the pace was going to be; the track was 10 or 12 degrees warmer. I didn't want to make a mistake and ruin a good weekend, so I dropped back a bit.

"Then I realised that I had some advantages at certain parts of the track. With half the race to go, I pushed and was able to keep some consistent lap times. It ended up being good enough for the podium; some weekends it goes like that, and we have to enjoy these weekends."
