Jake Dixon was 'left wanting more' after his second place at Motegi

Gold & Goose

Despite returning to the podium at the Japanese Grand Prix, Jake Dixon believes he could have claimed his third win of the season.

After coming off the back of a 16th-place finish at the San Marino Grand Prix, Jake Dixon was back on the podium this weekend at the Japanese Grand Prix.

The British rider had a strong weekend from the opening at the Twin Ring Motegi, as he topped the timesheets on Friday afternoon in Practice, as he set a new Moto2 Lap Record at the circuit.

However, on Saturday, he had a disappointing Qualifying session as he secured a sixth-place starting position from the rear of the second row.

Despite his lacklustre qualifying session, Dixon was able to return to the podium for the fifth time this season, as he secured a second-place finish and was 1.304 seconds behind the race winner.

"It’s a good result, but I’m left wanting more," Dixon admitted after the Japanese Grand Prix.

"We must do better in qualifying because I’m sure that if I was starting on the front row, the result could have been even better today.

"Once I got to second and into clear air, I was able to close the gap to the rider ahead. But it was too little, too late. Dani [Holgado] rode a great race to create that gap at the beginning, and he could control it from there.

"But I must do better. The last two races, I’ve been fast. But it was embarrassing how slow I was in Misano. Here, we were so much better off. I’m so grateful to the team, who’ve given me a great bike now for the past five races.

"Today the bike was good enough to win, but I just didn’t finish the job off. Now we’ll go to Indonesia, regroup and put the hard work in from Friday so we’re fighting at the front again."
