Miguel Oliveira discusses his chances of returning to MotoGP after announcing his World Superbike move for 2026.
Ahead of the Indonesian Grand Prix, it was confirmed that Miguel Oliveira would leave the MotoGP paddock at the end of the 2025 season.
The Prima Pramac Racing rider will move to World Superbikes in 2026 and will ride for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team, alongside Danilo Petrucci.
Oliveira revealed that he had the option to remain in MotoGP as a Test Rider next season, but the desire to stay as a full-time rider led him to World Superbikes.
"As soon as I realised it was difficult for me to have a place in MotoGP, as a full-time rider, I had to put [World Superbikes] under heavy consideration," Oliveira said on Thursday at the Indonesian Grand Prix.
"I was offered to [remain in MotoGP] as a Test Rider, but the decisive factor for me was the desire to compete, that fire is still very much on, and the only way I could do it was in World Superbikes.
"What I tried to do was to look for the best competitive tools to do it, with the team, the bike, and BMW felt like the right option for me."
Oliveira went on to discuss a potential return to MotoGP in the future, and stated that 'there is still a door open' if he wishes to return in the future.
"I am on a one-year contract with BMW, and I would not say the ultimate goal is to come back [to MotoGP]," he admitted.
"But for sure I will leave the door open, because MotoGP has been my life for the past 15 years. So, you don't close the door and lock it completely; there is still a door open.
"Who knows what the future holds for me if things go well in World Superbikes. Also, I think it will be my choice on what to do.
"World Superbikes has huge potential to grow as a series, so why not look for that at the moment, but leave the door open for MotoGP."
