'I did not have enough confidence to push' - Marc Marquez will go through Q1 for the first time in 2025

Gold & Goose

Marc Marquez has ruled himself out of victory contention after a difficult Friday at the Indonesian Grand Prix.

For the first time in the 2025 MotoGP season, Marc Marquez will have to participate in Q1 on Saturday morning at the Indonesian Grand Prix.

The Spaniard was unable to improve on his best lap time in the afternoon session, after crashing twice. Marquez admitted that he did not have the feeling to push for a faster time and prioritised not crashing.

"The strategy was not to crash two times, when I crashed twice, especially the second one, the strategy became to finish the session," Marquez stated after Friday's Practice at Mandalika.

"With the second tyre, we came out of the box at the same time, at that point I was already inside Q2. So, there was no point in pushing in front, but the problem was that we took three yellow flags.

"Then on the fourth lap, the tyre had started to drop, but the priority was not to crash another time. I did not have a feeling today, so let's see tomorrow."

Marquez was left confused in the afternoon Practice session as he felt 'super good' in Free Practice One, but in the second session, he was suffering with the rear tyre.

"In the morning I felt super good, but in the afternoon I went out and started to suffer a lot with the rear," he explained.

"Then, at the time attack, I had to take all the confidence, but I did not have enough confidence to push to the limit. Because with the second crash, after becoming Champion, it was not the best way to celebrate."

After a day of Practice, Marquez has written himself out of victory contention and now believes a top five would be a successful weekend.

"I started optimistically this weekend, but this circuit is not my circuit," he admitted.

"I just want to pass the weekend and wait until Australia... If we can finish inside the top five, it will be a success."
