After qualifying at the back of the grid, Maverick Vinales has decided to withdraw from the Indonesian Grand Prix.
Ahead of the MotoGP Sprint Race at the Indonesian Grand Prix, Maverick Vinales has made the decision to withdraw from the remainder of the weekend.
The Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider has had difficulties since rushing his return from a shoulder injury, which he sustained at the German Grand Prix in July.
After only missing four Grand Prix weekends, Vinales completed a full race weekend at the Catalan Grand Prix, where he finished 13th. However, at Misano and Motegi, Vinales did not score a point as he failed to finish and finished 16th in the two Grands Prix.
The Indonesian Grand Prix has been a difficult weekend for Vinales. On Friday, the Spaniard finished in 19th place at the end of the Friday afternoon Practice session. He then went on to qualify for the Sprint Race and Grand Prix in 20th place, and was 0.333 seconds behind Somkiat Chantra in 19th place.
At the end of Friday Practice, Vinales told the media that he was already considering the idea of withdrawing from the 18th Grand Prix of the season:
"We will talk with the team [to understand] what is the best to do, if to stop and come back when I’m fully fit or to keep going like this.
"But I think [to] keep going like this is very hard for me because I have pain and I’m losing a lot of feedback from the bike.
"So, we must be very smart and see what is the best way to recover fast."
