Jonathan Rea's World Superbike career will come to an end this weekend at the final round of the 2025 season.
This weekend marks the end of the 2025 World Superbike Championship, but it also marks the end of Jonathan Rea's full-time racing career.
The six-time World Superbike Champion will bow out of the series at the end of the weekend, and is excited to get his final weekend of racing underway.
"Right now, I feel excited to start the weekend," Rea told WorldSBK.com on Thursday at the Spanish World Superbike Round.
"It has been nice these last few races. I have felt a little bit more competitive; we could race in and around the top five. At the beginning of the season, with being injured, and the middle of the season being difficult, it has been positive.
"I have tried to put all the emotions of the future and what is happening next on hold until Sunday. I want to try to do a really good job here for my team, because they have given a constant effort throughout these last two seasons. I want to try to finish off in a good way."
Rea does not have a specific target for this weekend at the Spanish World Superbike Round, and just aims to give his maximum throughout the weekend for the Pata Maxus Yamaha squad.
"The ideal ending is to go out winning a race," he explained.
"But we are so far away from that, to be honest. We have been smelling the podium in the last few races; we have been close in the fight, but have had nothing in the last few laps, so we need to improve in that area.
"I think if we can come away from the races having given 100%, we can be satisfied. If that means fighting inside the top five, then that is what we have. But I will give 100% every lap until the end, and try to reward the team for all their hard work."
It seems likely that Rea will enter the Endurance World Championship next season, but the 38-year-old is yet to confirm his plans for 2026.
"No, I want to fully focus on this weekend and absorb all the feelings," he stated.
"I have a fair idea of what is happening next, but the idea is to continue. In these three races, I will give everything I have and worry about my future on Monday."
