Alitalia Aprilia's Leon Camier is quietly confident of a good result during this weekend's World Superbike round at the superfast Monza circuit following a two-day test session at Mugello which he described as 'the best ever'.
Even though the lanky Kent youngster still isn't able to train as hard as he would like because of the glandular fever that struck him down at Phillip Island, Camier tried two different engine settings, one of which is very strong, and some chassis developments which saw him lap at 1'51.2 - a good MotoGP lap is a mid-49s.
"On the whole it was really good. The engine settings we tried were strong and my lap was only a tenth behind Max, so that bodes well for Monza this weekend. It's a fast place but I think we're defintiely in with a shout and I shouldn't need a bigger boat," said Camier, speaking to bikesportnews.com this morning.
"We did about 50 laps at Mugello each day, I think, and what we achieved should work well for the rest of the year, not just this weekend. Monza is the team's home race and if we can get some podiums, we may drink to our legs."
