TT 2011: 'Lucky' Amor escapes Supersport crash unhurt

Scottish ace Keith Amor admitted he was lucky he was able to emerge unscathed from his spill at Union Mills in this afternoon's aborted Supersport 600cc race - and was vociferous in his view that the race should never have been started in the first place.

The KBMG Racing rider was lying in sixth place at the end of the first lap of a race that was started with damp patches all around the course but he only got as far as Union Mills on lap two when he lost the bike through the right-hander over the bridge and slid all the way down the middle of the road.

"It was very patchy on the first lap and it was so difficult to see what was dry and what was wet, you just had no idea. The lack of adhesion flags were out in places where it was both dry and wet so they didn't help you much and you had no idea at all how hard to push," said Amor, speaking to bikesportnews.com this afternoon.

"It was bone dry through Union Mills on the first lap but when we went round on the second, I saw Guy have his feet off in front of me and John sitting the bike up and then as I went flicked the bike from left to right over the bridge, the back end just came right round on me and down I went - you couldn't see any water and it went so quickly.

"Me and the bike just slid down the middle of the road and the bike was chasing John so much that I thought it was going to hit him too. I didn't hit anything luckily and am perfectly fine but the bike slid into the wall and the swingarm's all bent and the chassis twisted so it's pretty much wrecked. I'll be out on the spare tomorrow.

"I didn't want it to go in the first place, none of us did - me, John, Guy, Bruce were all of the same view. We spoke to the organisers this morning and they brought the parade lap forward but you could see in the sky what colour the clouds were and there was rain all around so they should have waited until it was dry, we shouldn't be starting a race in those conditions.

"It's fine and dandy when it's bone dry but damp patches and localised showers give you no chance. It's dangerous enough round here as it is never mind when it's iffy conditions and I don't want to take more risks than I need to - it can be dry on one part of the course but if you go round a corner at 140mph and find a damp patch, it's game over."
