Two of Britain’s best known short circuit racers are set to follow in Seve Plater’s shoes and make their debut at the 2008 Isle of Man TT.
Sean Emmett and Jamie Robinson, who has quit short circuits, will line up against regulars like John McGuinness, Guy Martin and Ryan Farquharon the island in June.
Emmett (36) had four seasons in Grands Prix before finding his home in the British Superbike Championship. Since 1997, he has recorded a hugely impressive tally of 12 wins and 59 podiums, primarily on Ducati machinery, also finishing in the top six overall on six occasions. Without doubt, Emmett is one of the UK’s most popular Superbike riders for the last decade and a race win in the 2006 British Supersport Championship showed he still has what it takes. Having previously competed on the roads at the Macau GP, the Surrey rider
lines up for the Speedfreaks / Ice Valley Racing team.
Robinson first shot to prominence in 1992 when the then 16-year old fi nished 8th in the 125cc British Championship. Three years later he claimed the 250cc crown and made a serious impression on the European Championship before moving into 250cc GP’s in 1996. Alongside Scott Smart, Robinson is one of the finest 250cc riders the UK produced in the 1990s, he never really got the breaks at the highest level and returned to the UK, initially on a Superbike before switching to the British Supersport series in 2003, where he has remained ever since.
