WSBK | PHILLIP ISLAND - THE MAIN MEN SPEAK

Troy Bayliss: "This year, being my last year, I’m out to enjoy myself and, of course, to win races. The team’s goal is to win the championship and so I’ll be taking any opportunity I’m given for a win here. It should be a great weekend, many of my family members and friends are coming down to cheer me on so I hope I can do well for them too. Phillip Island is a pretty special track for me and I’ve had some good and bad experiences during that time and so of course I’d love to go out on a high here. I’m feeling really comfortable on the new 1098 F08 and with the atmosphere in the team so I’m looking forward to what is ahead - it will be a competitive weekend and the same can be said for the rest of the year."

Ruben Xaus: “I‘m going to take up the job done here in January which allowed me to score good times and to get an excellent race pace. I want to repeat the race of Qatar, I want to be one of the top riders in Australia too”.

Max Biaggi: “I’m really hopeful about the race here in Australia because we had the opportunity to test on this track during the winter. I hope to better the performance of the first round in Qatar”.

Troy Corser: "Starting the season with a podium at Qatar was good and I’ve already put the race two result from last weekend behind me. We will just be taking things one race and one round at a time from now on. It’s good to be going to my home circuit, it’s one of the best tracks in the world and I always look forward to riding there.”

Noriyuki Haga: "After two big crashes at Qatar I am quite sore but I’m pretty confident I will be OK for Phillip Island. We have to work well to get a good race set-up but as we have tested there recently we should start from a good position. I need to get my mind focused for this race, but first I just need a small rest to let my injured right wrist heal a little bit.”
Fonsi Nieto: "Last week was a fantastic weekend and it was so good to take my first SBK win. Now it’s time to think about this weekend and try and keep up the momentum. I like Phillip Island; it is a real circuit for racers and it’s also a very demanding track. To put in a good lap here you have to be perfect on every part of the track. Butwhen you do that, it is a wonderful feeling."

Max Neukirchner: "Since last weekend my condition has improved a lot and I’m feeling much better. The ‘flu, or whatever I had in Qatar, made me lose concentration in the latter part of the race. Otherwise maybe I could’ve taken a podium. But I’m OK now and looking forward to racing at one of my favourite tracks."

Michel Fabrizio: "I have had some good experiences here at Phillip Island in the past few years and I have to say I like the track. I was pretty happy with how I went in Qatar but I hope this weekend gives me the chance to improve on how I did last weekend. I would really like to be up at the front with the Australian riders but we will see how we go - I’m feeling happy with the bike and so it should be a great weekend."

Carlos Checa: "It will be the first time for our Superbikes at Phillip Island, as we missed out on the test earlier this year. It will be important for us to work with the right tyres and not just do one fast lap in qualifying. We need to find a tyre that is consistent throughout the whole race so we can close the gap to the riders at
the front. The new bike is handling a lot better then last year’s bike already; I am happy with the chassis and confident that we can succeed."

Ryuichi Kiyonari: "Now I must try hard for Phillip Island. I have raced there before but it was a long time ago and I don’t remember it so much. Hopefully it will be OK and better for the new machine."

Kenan Sofuoglu:
"For sure Phillip Island will be another hard weekend because every track I go to I have start again from zero. I think every weekend will be difficult for me but as we showed in Qatar I will improve throughout the three days. I think the Phillip Island track will be even more physical but at least I have some experience now with the Superbike. I am too tense at the moment, not riding easily and I am still using too much of a Supersport style with high corner speeds, which uses the front tyre up too much. I think Friday will be hard at Phillip Island but I think that by Sunday we should be able to get around the top ten again."
