WSBK | KEEPING UP WITH JONESY - THE CRAIG JONES WSS COLUMN

Considering how my weekend started out I’m really pleased to have pulled in a sixth place and a bundle of points. I’m currently driving through a very beautiful part of Switzerland on my way back from Monza and just mulling the weekend over.
My Parkalgar Honda was on top form and was the fastest Honda on track which is always a good thing at a high speed circuit like Monza. Everything was going well as I had completed first qualifying in sixth place and we had some changes to make to the bike for second qualifying. The adjustments that my Parkalgar technicians made really worked well, I had slip streamed a few riders and got some clear track. I put in my fastest first sector and was provisionally fastest when I caught the white line at Lesmo two.
I had a big high-side and landed hands first. I pretty much punched the track and at that point I thought my weekend was over. I knew my left hand was broken due to the shooting pains and the swelling. I was so convinced that was it - good job I’m not much of a Doctor. I went to the Clinica Mobila and they sorted me out.
In second qualifying I managed to finish 12th and that put me on the third row of the grid. I got a superb start and was fifth into the first corner, thankfully I managed to avoid getting caught up in any turn one crashes. The high speed straights weren’t a problem with my injured hand but I couldn’t feel my clutch very well. I had a pain killing injection ahead of the race so that was making things a little awkward. I decided just to see how the race unfolded and it was good, I bagged some points and towards the end I was battling for fourth place which isn’t bad considering I’ve a broken hand.
We are due to race at Donington Park British Supersport round on Monday 26th May but that will now depend on how my hand is. I’ll have to play it by ear; I’ll know more once I’ve had it scanned back in the UK. I’ll be resting my hand but I need to keep on with my training to keep my weight down.
It would be good to race at Donington as it would be a relaxing event for me due to not having to travel for several days to get there. Plus I’d get to see and race against some old rivals. Let’s hope my hand improves so I can see you all at Donington Park.
