Mighty Nitros keep it in the family…
The third of the Superteen races each day was mainly for Nitro Newcomers, and proved to be something of a family affair, with Greg and Scott James, and George and Ryan Martindale amongst those fighting it out for the honours.
In the end, both victories went to a very happy George Martindale.
Aprilia pillion…
Ashley Jones carries a weight penalty on his Superteen machine.
Eagle-eyed ornithologists will have spotted that the young Whitby man is accompanied on his Huntsman Inn-entered RS 125 by a duck…it sits on Ashley’s seat, facing backwards…wonder what it says when he overtakes someone?
From Yorkie to Yokel…
RMKD Racing’s Michael Saunders grabbed three out of four wins in the Junior Powerbikes, but was made to fight hard every inch of the way.
Michael, originally from York, but now operating out of King’s Lynn, in Norfolk, got involved in great scraps with the similar Kawasakis of Ian Cooper and the evergreen Rik Ballerini, who didn’t appear a bit ring-rusty, despite this being his first competitive riding for many months.
All three took turns to lead each race, but none of them could get to the first corner in front of the amazing Tony Coombs, who got his Suzuki hooked up in stunning fashion. If only Tony could squeeze a bit more power from the SV 650, he’d surely be able to challenge the Kawasakis at the end of the races, as well as the starts.
Winners all
On paper, Ed Rendell and Gary May won all of the races they entered at Cadwell, but that doesn’t adequately convey the excitement of the Thundersport GP 3, GP1, and 600 races.
In GP3, Sam Shorrock, Adam Dudley, Tom Weedon, and Jason Dobson kept up constant pressure on Ed, but the championship leader withstood it well.
In the 600s, two youngsters who are fast becoming potential superstars of the future, Billy Mellor and Ashley Midwood, harassed Gary May all the way, but eventually could find no answer to the man from Hungerford.
Local rider, Liam Marchant came closest to upsetting Gary May’s perfect weekend, but had to settle for a trio of second places in GP1.
Mark my words….
GP2 competitors are on a real high as they anticipate the experience of providing a support race to Moto GP at Donington.
It’s already seriously tense stuff, as Cadwell’s battles between Mark Davies, Lee Dickenson, Chris McAloren, and Andy Sawford showed.
Mark and Lee took a win apiece, but the word is that there are many more highly experienced GP250 riders who would like to join in the fun before the Grand Prix at the end of June…
Powerful lady
Sam Burman got her first competitive taste of 250cc power, when she road a 1992 Honda RS in the GP2 races.
The borrowed machine came from the Honda collection of John Chapman, to whom Sam expressed her sincere thanks.
Two wheels quick, one wheel not…
An exotic attempt to run a wheelie the entire length of the finish straight at Cadwell nearly backfired for GP1 rider, Rob Elsmere, as he discovered he was not as far ahead of his fellow competitors as he’d imagined… highly entertaining, as always, though, and it saved a bit on tire wear…
