Flossy flies, again!
Two wins out of four at Brands Indy in March, three out of four at Cadwell in April, four out of four at Brands GP in May, and now another great weekend for Steph ‘Flossie’ Waddelow.
Coming into the weekend at Brands Indy, she trailed Jack Blake by just three points, in the MRO Superteen championship.
But Flossie responded superbly to the pressure, taking pole position, and then four wins out of four, to come away with a healthy points lead.
Better still, none of the wins was a walkover – she had to fight off Wayne Ryan, Alex Olsen and Andy Reid every time, and spent nearly as many laps chasing, as leading.
It was stirring stuff, and reinforces just how tough a competitor Steph has become.
Jack Blake suffered agonies, qualifying seventh, and then having to watch as his closest points rival, Steph, picked up the wins.
He was in determined mood on Sunday morning, pumped up to give it his best, when his chain broke, at Graham Hill Bend, on the warm-up lap.
Cruel enough luck for anyone, but particularly for young Jack, who does more self-spannering on the bike than anyone else in the Superteen series.
Nick Anderson continues to catch the eye in the Superteens.
He’s been involved in some fairly lurid accidents this season, and not of his own making, but this weekend he seems to have taken a huge step forward.
A couple of fourths at Brands are his best results so far, and I think we can confidently expect to see him on the podium soon.
Good to see the return to action of both Tommy Dale and Kasey Wyatt at Brands.
Both picked up nasty arm/wrist injuries a few weeks ago, which meant that both had to sit out the Moto GP Superteen support race.
They still turned up at Donington, though, to sniff the atmosphere, and feel part of the event, and to support their mates.
Good effort, too, from Jason Douglas, who was leading Metrakit 80 rider home in each of the four races.
An horrific accident hospitalised EDIAsia 400 front-runner, Max Exton, during Friday testing.
He was airlifted to London, and the long fight to recovery has begun.
At the regular Saturday evening presentations we were treated to a very moving and impassioned speech by Max’s Dad, and fellow racer, Simon Exton, who’d taken time from his son’s bedside to thank the Bemsee Medical staff and Marshals, for their usual timely and efficient help.
Huge congratulations to Liam Lyon, the first Bemsee Champion of 2008.
He wrapped up the MRO Dyna-pro Supersport 600 title in fine style, with a pair of wins on Saturday, the culmination of a fantastic campaign by the young Scot.
Fresh from an extended trek through the deepest of jungles, with nothing but a blunt machete, three back-copies of Razzle, and a bag of cough candy to sustain him, Nick Sanders, the Colonel, returned to the bosom of the Yamaha Past Masters at the weekend.
Apart from an uncontrollable twitch, a rheumy eye, and a nasty rash, his Colonelship was as perky as ever, and once he’d been squeezed, with the help of buckets of talcum powder and a handful of paracetemols, into the familiar banana-coloured leathers, it was as though he never deserted us for his trip to Bongo-Bongo land, in search of the Oohmegoolie bird.
Thirty-fourth place on the grid in the first YPM race produced an eleventh place finish after a ride of stunning tenacity.
Excitement was at a fever pitch as Colonel-san, cutting a dash like to shame the dandiest of Confederate Officers that he so closely resembles, achieved a fourth on Sunday.
Celebrations were unconfined.
