Strong rumour has reached us from America that Neil Hodgson might well be wildcarding for the Vent Axia Honda squad at Donington World Superbikes.
It is believed that because Honda America are so fed up with the situation regarding AMA technical regulations, they will announce they are to pull out of the series altogether, which leaves Hodgson without a ride for 2009. It is also believed that Hodgson has been in regular contact with Vent Axia Honda team boss Paul Bird over the past fortnight.
It is a not-very-well-kept secret that Bird is far from happy with the performance of rider Gregorio Lavilla, which led him to draught in Chris Walker for last weekend's Brands Hatch round. Whether this means that Lavilla will be sacked inside the next month remains to be seen.
If Hodgson does come into the squad for Donington, it could set-up a dream team for Bird if he continues with his WSB plans in 2009... Walker and Hodgson in the same team. Can you imagine?
Uncharacteristically, Bird was unavailable for comment.
