CF/Boost Drinks Yamaha rider Michael Pearson had a successful Ulster Grand Prix Bike Week at Dundrod in Co-Antrim, with the 31 year old Ballygowan man notching up his first ever National Irish Road Race win in Thursday's Dundrod 150 Challenge Superbike Race.

He then qualified seventh for Saturday's Ulster Grand Prix Superbike race, in front of TT heroes John McGuiness, Guy Martin, and Ian Hutchinson. But just when Pearson was getting into the swing of things, Saturday's main race meeting for the Belfast Telegraph Ulster Grand Prix had to be abandoned due to torrential rain and localised flooding.

However, Pearson was upbeat about his performance earlier in the week at Dundrod, especially after taking a start to finish win the Dundrod Challenge Race.

"It's been a very difficult week to say the least. I feel very sorry for the organisers the Dundrod and District Motorcycle Club, who had put a huge effort into the Ulster this year," said Pearson.

"For me personally, it's been a great week. We set the fastest time in practice for the Dundrod 150 Challenge Race on Wednesday, but my Superbike was way down in power. I could not pull fifth or sixth gears out, and was loosing alot of time and speed, but it was still enough to take pole on Thursday.

"In Thursday's race over five laps of the nine-mile circuit, I never seen another rider until I took the chequered flag as I was able to get away first and keep that lead until the end. It was a great result for all the Team and I always feel very comfortable around Dundrod.

"Later in the day, (Thursday) I set 7th fastest time in the UGP Superbike qualifying at 115.014mph, and then in the Superstock qualifying I set the 10th fastest time at a speed of 124.062mph.

"I was pleased enough with that but the bike was still down on power. If the bike had been going as she should have been, I am sure that I could have set a lap speed of 127mph+.

"Saturday unfortunately was a miserable day with the heavens just opening all morning, and it was obvious that the meeting would not have been able to run."
