Former British Supersport champion Mike Edwards has been appointed as the ACU's very first road racing commercial coach.
Edwards, who still races in a variety of championships including European Supermono, will be responsible for mentoring and coaching youngsters and says it's a lot more than a step up from instructing.
"This is not some namby pamby,'I’m famous, with a few British Championship titles so listen to me, I know how to do it…' type thing," said Edwards.
"I have undertaken the formal ACU coaching course, found out about psychology and nutrition – do lots of homework, acquire a first aid qualification and get the holiest of all grails, coaching insurance."
The aim of a commercial road racing coach is to give a fully-rounded package of information, so young riders being coached have access to all the information they will need to progress.
Dave Luscombe, head of the ACU Training Department said: “Mike is the perfect ambassador for road race coaching. I can think of no better person to have as a coach and the news that Mike will be the first commercial road race coach should be seen as a fantastic opportunity for anyone wishing to develop their racing skills.”
