NEW ERA | BURMAN TAKES DOUBLE WIN AT SNETTERTON

Making excellent use of a weekend away from her regular Thundersport GB exploits, Sam Burman has taken a double victory in the 125cc class, and two podium finishes in the all comers races at round 12 of the New Era Motorcycle Club Championship at Snetterton on Sunday. Subsequently, she was presented with the ‘Rider of the Day’ award for her achievements.

Using the event as extra practice, Burman quickly got down to serious business, posting the second fastest time during qualifying, ensuring a front row position for the two GP125 races that run alongside the Formula 400s, Hornets, and Honda CB500s.

In race one, she made a good start, and was immediately in a three way battle for the lead with Sam Hornsey and Simon Low. However, calculating her race to perfection, Burman got the hammer down and pulled a gap at the front of just over a second, to take a well earned victory. Race two was much of the same, dicing once again with Hornsey and Low, until two laps from home Simon Low highsided coming out of the Russell chicane, and Hornsey crashed trying to avoid him, leaving Burman to once again take the honours, this time by a more comfortable margin of eight seconds.

In the first of the all comers races Burman, again starting from second place on the grid, didn’t get the start that she hoped for, but she battled through the pack to finish on the podium in third place. For the final race of the day, she got a much better start, and with the previous race winner, Phil Guillou, not taking part, Burman settled into second place behind Martin Thrower, a position she would comfortably hold on to, until heavy rain caused the race to be stopped on safety grounds.

Sam said:“What a great day! We were the fastest 125 of the weekend, winning both races, and had some great battles. The all comers races were good fun and we achieved two podiums, all in all a really good weekend, and to be awarded the ‘Rider of the Day’ just finished it off, which I was proud of.”
