British Supersport star Chris Martin has taken provisional fifth on the grid for Sunday's World Supersport race in Vallelunga after today's wet first qualifying.
Martin is riding for the GiL Kawasaki team in Italy after he wildcarded at the Donington round a couple of weeks ago. The youngster managed to lap just over a second slower than poleman and wet weather specialst matthew Lagrive.
Ireland's Jonathan Rea took second place just a tenth slower than the Frenchman with Gianluca Nanelli in third and Donington Park winner Josh Brookes in fourth.
Eugene Laverty, who is riding with broken bones in his foot, ended the session in 12th with Graeme Gowland in 16th.
