THUNDERSPORT FINALE: WEEDEN LOOKING FOR STRONG FINISH

Tom Weeden is a youngster who has marked himself out as one to watch in 2009.

The 14 year-old from Maidstone has raced hard all year, competing in Thundersport GP3, and is looking to finish the season on real high this weekend, as the final rounds of the inaugural Thundersport GB season take place at Donington, before some of the series move on to Mallory Park, on Sunday, to support the Race of the Year.

Riding a standard 125cc bike, he has turned in some inspired performances this year, particularly when pitched against tuned, as well as standard, machinery.

Currently lying second in both the overall Thundersport GB3 Championship, and the Acu Clubmans Championship that runs within it, Tom also lies third in the EMRA 125 Race Machine Championship, so this is a huge weekend for the young rider, especially since the Race of the Year is a combined EMRA/Thundersport GB programme.

Thus decent finishes at both circuits are vital for Tom, not just to consolidate his achievements so far, but maybe to get his hands on a championship trophy.

Alongside his championship campaigns, Tom has tried to cram in as much race action as possible this year.

Recently, he was out with the North Gloucester Road Racing Club at Thruxton, where he picked up a fourth and a third in unpleasantly wet and windy conditions.

All good experience then, but Tom has to dig deep and be right on top of his game this weekend, with not just championship points at stake, but an opportunity to impress at one of the last race events of the year.

2008 has undoubtedly been good for Tom, as he’s racked up a series of great results in his first season, many achieved against older, more experienced riders.

But it’s that time of year again.
All eyes are on next season.
What to race, and where.
Tom’s goal?

Well, if funds can be raised, he hopes to compete in the British Championships, and maybe take in some races in Spain.
More racing, more experience.
Go for it, Tom!
