Following a six week break Round 4 of Darley Moor Motor Cycle Road Race Club’s Championship is ready to get underway on Sunday 26th June 2011 and riders have the opportunity this weekend for some additional practice on Saturday 25th.
The longer break between Rounds 3 and 4 is to allow Club Secretary, Eddie Nelson take-up his regular role of Clerk of the Course, for the world’s most famous motorcycle race, the Isle of Man TT Races. Whilst the 1.5 mile Darley Moor circuit is much smaller than the 37.75 mile TT course Eddie will treat the Club Championship with the same attention to detail to ensure the safety of both the competitors and spectators, whilst ensuring the meeting runs smoothly.
Last time out Shane Pearson (Derby) was forced to settle for 2nd place in the Peak Cup and Open Solo races after Jim Hodson (Wigan) took the honours and Championship lead in both classes. Richard Wardle (Stoke on Trent) will be trying to get his more nimble 600cc bike back amongst the 1000cc machines and improve his points tally in Peak Cup Championship.
The Sidecar pairing of Roger Golling and Rob Dean will be looking to return to winning ways after being forced to take two Runner-Up places at Round 3, which left the Championship’s top 3 split by just 8 points.
Just 5 points separate Stoke on Trent racers Chris Spooner (1st) from Matt Zschiesche (3rd) in the Lightweight Championship, but with a victory in Round 3 Adam Hoare, currently 5th (Loscoe) and will be looking to close the gap, as will Ben Godfrey (4th, Long Eaton).
Ricky Tarren (Tamworth) will be looking to finish both races this time out after recording a 3rd and then suffering a ‘dnf’ in the second race, he lost the GP125 Championship lead, but is just 2 points adrift. Running alongside the GP machines will be the Formula 125 riders with Asher Durham (Derby) hoping for another rostrum finish after securing a 3rd place last time out. William Green (Buxton) will be aiming for his first rostrum finish this weekend.
Richard Wardle (Stoke on Trent) will be also be aiming to return to winning ways in the Formula 600’s, after victory in the first four races of the season he had to settle for second best at Round 3 after Jim Hodson (Wigan) swept everybody aside to record six victories last time out. Jamie Medhurst (Long Eaton), Ross Richards (Chesterfield), Martyn Cooper (Stoke on Trent) and James Ford (High Peak) will all be looking to challenge for rostrum positions.
Anthony Porter (Chesterfield) is the man to beat for Formula Darley victories, taking all the race wins to date. Chris Spooner (Stoke on Trent), Gary Dangerfield (Stonnall), Alex Woodhouse (Chesterfield) and Matt Zschiesche will be trying to stop him taking a clean sweep.
The Pre injection 600 Championship is a battle between Jon Skelson (Leicester) and Gavin Salt (Leek), Skelson recording double victories at Round 2, whilst Salt recorded his at Round 3.
The Sound of Thunder class will see Jamie Medhurst (Long Eaton) and James Ford (High Peak) continue their battle which sees them separated by just 3 points at the top of the table. The Mini Sound of Thunder riders will be trying to stop Anthony Porter (Chesterfield) continuing in the same manner as his Formula Darley stranglehold, Alex Woodhouse (Chesterfield), Nigel Holdcroft (Stoke on Trent), Graham Oakley (Chesterfield) and Phil Johnson (Stoke on Trent) will be doing all they can to prevent it happening.
Kevin Cooper (Stoke on Trent) has recorded four victories in the Pre98’s (up to 1000cc), two each at Rounds 1 and 3, although at the last Round he only succeeded after misfortune struck the leader on both occasions.
