BMW Italia's James Toseland is aiming to simply finish both races at this weekend's Silverstone World Superbike round after a disappointing season plagued by the wrist he broke in testing and the subsequent surgeries to fix it.
Toseland, who has been replaced by Lorenzo Lanzi for the last three rounds, hasn't yet scored a championship point but is confident of putting in a solid performance this weekend. He insists he isn't doing a rain dance at the Northamptonshire track…
"The prognosis for the wrist is a 100 per cent recovery. When it was feeling OK I tried to race in America and the pain it was giving me while I was riding was enough to tell me there was damage being done," said Toseland, speaking to bikesportnews.com at Silverstone.
"I had a delayed reaction to the nerve and ligament damage I had done to it so I was back to square one and in hospital. Basically in all kinds of trouble again. We realised then that absolutely no loading it whatsoever is the cure put the thing is deciding when and how much to load it again.
"I did 50 laps week at Mugello. It was good but to be fair it was as much me riding a bike again as the injury. In the evening, my wrist was a bit angry but on the Friday and Saturday it was absolutely fine. I was relieved to find out I could ride a bike flat out again.
"The aim here is to see the chequered flag twice. I'm not thinking about results, I will push as hard as I can."
