Althea Ducati's Carlos Checa has resumed normal service at Silverstone this afternoon and taken World Superbike provisional pole position ahead of satellite Ducati man Maxine Berger with the PBM Kawasaki of Tom Sykes bagging a late third place.
Berger's time looked set for top spot until Checa rolled out of his garage with only a few minutes left on the clock, lapping in 2'05.447 which was four-tenths faster than the Frenchman. Sykes just nipped in front of Alitalia Aprilia's Leon Camier who completes a provisional front row with his 2'05.937.
This morning's fastest man, John Hopkins on the wildcard Samsung Suzuki, was just bounced off the provisional front row by Sykes' times and has the Alstare Suzuki of Michel Fabrizio with Jakub Smrz and Eugene Laverty rounding out row two.
Reigning world champion Max Biaggi continues to struggle in ninth place while Leon Haslam's BMW rounds out the top ten. James Toseland put his BMW Italia S1000RR in 12th place with Alex Lowes 15th and qualified for Superpole. Jon Kirkham ended the day down in 22nd.
