Dundrod 150: Cummins disappointed with big race stoppage

Manxman Conor Cummins was another rider disappointed with the decision to red flag Thursday's Dundrod 150 Superbike race after making a charge through the field on the opening lap.

Problems in qualifying meant that the McAdoo Racing Kawasaki rider had to start from the rear of the first group and switch to his 2009 machine but, with intermediate tyres fitted, he completed the first lap in eighth place and had moved up to fifth when the race was stopped.

"I was really charging out there and had closed right in on Ian (Lougher) and Michael (Dunlop) so was gutted when the race was stopped and, to be honest, I don't know why it was. In my mind, you make your tyre choice accordingly and if you make the wrong choice and have to pull in, so be it," said Cummins.

"Many of us were happy with what we'd got on tyre wise and I was well up for it. Visibility was good and although it was damp around the back part of the circuit under the trees, it ceratinly wasn't wet. The intermediates were definitely the way to go and I had no problems staying out so it was disappointing for the race to be stopped."

It's been very much a rebuilding year for the 25-year old but, at the road races, he's been well on the pace and is confident he'll be able to give him a good account of himself in tomorrow's Ulster GP, come rain or shine.

"I've just gone about my racing this year in an understated manner, keeping out of trouble and constantly chipping away but, if anything, the road race meetings have been slightly easier than the circuits. I know what I'm capable of and want to get the best results I can tomorrow.

"I'm there or thereabouts in every class and it's a circuit I really enjoy so I've got as good a chance as anyone. What happened in the past is history now so I'll be pushing as hard as the next man. I think I've approached things this year in the right frame of mind but whatever happens between now and the end of the year, what is guaranteed is that I'll be back in 2012 and going all out for the race wins. I'll be more determined than anyone next year."
