Both Leon Camier and Eugene Laverty had to fight massive chatter problems at the Imola World Sueprbike round yesterday with it limiting the Alitalia Aprilia man to 15th in race one but he bounced back with a podium in the second out whle Laverty settled for a fifth and fourth.
Camier still doesn't know what caused his race-one problem but he was also struggling to stop the bike, running on at the first chicance. He hen found himself racing with wildcard Alex Polita. Contrastingly, Laverty suffered a similar problem in race two but a change to the electronic setup went someway to curing it.
"We hadn't had any problems and I was on podium pace all weekend. There was nothing wrong with the tyre, it is a mystery and we still don't know what caused it. It was fine in race two but I still didn't have the pace to go with Checa," said Camier, speaking to bikesportnews.com at lunchtime.
"It’s good to get a podium for Aprilia, it’s an absolutely awesome feeling. These races and the season in general have been truly tiring, I’m exhausted! It’s a shame about the first race, we could have done a lot better without that mistake, and I’ve got to feel sorry for Jonny Rea – he deserved to come away with a double today."
Laverty added: “I was disappointed with the results in the first race. The bike was working quite well but I made a stupid mistake that caused me to go wide and then I lost out on the chance to fight for the podium. I got a good start in race two but suffering from a chattering problem I found it tough to keep fighting. Mid way I adjusted a button on the handle bar which altered the engine braking allowing me to improve lap times. With the less than perfect set up and the hotter track temperatures, I am really satisfied with my fourth place finish.”
