Parkingo Yamaha's Chaz Davies finished sixth in today's World Supersport encounter at Magny-Cours but it was more than enough for the Welsh wizard to secure the title in the French sunshine.
Davies used his head and avoided any potential clashes while team-mate Luca Scassa rode shotgun for half of the race until his team released him to move in front of Davies to go for the win, which he duly did passing first Sam Lowes and then Broc Parkes - who was also passed by Lowes for second - but the day belonged to El Bandito.
"It's been a hell of a season and a hell of a 15 years to get where I am standing today. I just don't know what to say, there are so many emotions all at once. I have been working at this my whole life and here we are," said a clearly emotional Davies after the race.
"I can't say enough about my team. They picked me up two years ago, just taking a risk for themselves and here we are two years later as world champions. It just shows that anything can happen. At times I never believed I would be in this position and here I am. It's all credit to my whole team and my family who have always been by my side and have always believed in me. It hasn't sunk in yet, it's amazing."
