Bird considers three championships in one season

PBM Kawasaki team boss Paul Bird got the red carpet treatment at last weekend's Magny-Cours World Superbike round and said he had been in discussion with Aprilia's Gigi Dall'Igna about machinery for next year's championship.

According to the Cumbrian chicken magnate, WSB bosses Paolos Flammini and Ciabatti were very anxious to talk and would clearly like him to stay in the championship.

He claimed that he had also engaged in talks with Aprillia which would give him the machinery to compete in WSB next year. "I am not closing down any options," he said but admitted it remained highly likely that two championships were probably enough.

"I am committed to British Superbikes with Kawasaki and I want to get in on the ground floor with MotoGP. That is where the action is going to be under the new formula," he said.

Other than Stuart Easton for BSB, Bird was reluctant to name his other potential riders but it is quite likely that one of the BSB Showdown six will be on the list for next years home series and there will be no shortage for the CRT entry.

One who might be considered, Scott Redding, is contracted to his present team for another year in Moto2 but, according to Bird, is definitely in the frame for 2013.
