BMW Motorrad's Leon Haslam and Marco Melandri tested a new PI electronic system during a three-day test at Jerez on top of another new engine specification and a further revised chassis geometry at the Spanish circuit.
The new spec of motor gives more grunt while the electronics engineers will no doubt be working on the engine push problems which Haslam experienced, and couldn't dial out all year. The British rider also couldn't make the 2011 S1000RR work on the qualifying tyres either. Haslam has also drafted in two technicians from the old Alstare Suzuki team and has taken tyre technician, and Irish coffee expert, Ash Banks on from the other side of the garage.
"This test went really well. We made some good progress over these three days. We did a lot of development for next season and here we have been able to tick many boxes on our things-to-do-list. We also worked very productively regarding engine mapping and ride dynamic strategies. Overall, the team spirit is really high. We have a few new people in the garage and everyone is working together very well. Now we are looking forward to another three days in Portugal," said Haslam.
