World Superbike boss to propose new formats including fuel stops

World Superbike chief Paolo Flammini is to put a proposal to teams which may involve abandoning, at least for some rounds, the traditional two leg format.

In an exclusive interview with bikesportnews.com, he told of plans to make the series more entertaining and better value for spectators and viewers. "We are on the entertainment business," he said. "At circuits like Donington we will have exhibitions and entertainment where people can go between the races.

"But I would also like to propose to the teams that we experiment, at one or two meetings next season, with one longer race involving fuel stops. I know how fans like the two legs but we must always look to new things."

But it seems unlikely that WSB will return to Brands Hatch any time soon unless the FIM relaxes its stringent safety rules. "It is not a financial problem," said Flammini. "We have to be aware of rider safety, which is very important."
