Imola WSBK: Coghlan bags seventh in Superstock 1000 opener

DMC Racing's Kev Coghlan bagged seventh place in this morning's season opening European Superstock 1000 race at Imola after it was stopped after an accident into the final chicane saw Heber Pedrosa's stricken Kawasaki separate into two parts after it hit the end of pitwall.

Coghlan had been sitting in ninth when the red flag came out which set him nicely on row three for the re-start. He made up two places on the first two laps of five and then settled into sixth as leaders Sylvai Barrier, Eddie La Marra, Loris Baz and Marcus Reiterberger pulled a serious gap.

The young Scot, aboard an 1199 Ducati Panigale, defended sixth right until the final set of corners but was just outpaced by Fabio Massei across the line. Barrier took the win with Baz second and La Marra third.
