Assen WSBK: Supersport pole for Honda's Lowes

PTR Honda's Sam Lowes has taken pole position for tomorrow's World Supersport race at Assen with his time from yesterday as even though the damp Dutch circuit was drying rapidly, it was still too wet for the Linconshire man to match his quickest lap from yesterday.

Lowes' 1'38.900 was only 0.039 quicker than relative veteran Broc Parkes, who also couldn't improve on yesterday, but third-placed man Jules Cluzel did go faster on a 1'39.450 while former champion Kenan Sofuoglu also upped his pace to a 1'39.458 but the Turk is still some six-tenths off the pace.

"The conditions were a bit on and off today. This morning we were fast in the wet. In the afternoon the track wasn't as good as yesterday but we had a good pace. I used the hard tyre a lot in the afternoon and was consistently in the 1:39's, so if we can keep that pace in the race, we'll be fine," said Lowes.

"At the end of the qualifying session the track was almost completely dry but still a bit slippery in places yet we still got close to our yesterday's time. I'm feeling good for the race and confident both in the dry and in the wet so let's wait and see what the conditions will be like tomorrow."

Veteran Fabien Foret used his time from the first session to take fifth with Imre Toth, Sheridan Morais and Valentine Leonov rounding out row two. Britain's Martin Jessopp was 23rd.
