Brett McCormick's father Grant has said his son is expected to make a full and speedy recovery from the injuries suffered in the second World Superbike race at Assen yesterday which saw him fracture his C5 vertbrae.
The Candian was dicing with Carlos Checa when he hit some wet fake grass and went down, injuring the bone in a non-neurological way, as well as breaking his thumb and suffering two black eyes in the fall. He was taken to the main hospital in nearby Gronigen and will be further assessed today.
"Brett is sleeping comfortably and will be assesed to see if surgery is necessary to stabilize his C5. Other than that a broken thumb and assorted bruises etc (two black eyes). He was lucky and will be making a full and speedy recovery," said father Grant.
"I would like to thank Shoei and Alpinestars for doing an awesome job and keeping this from being much worse. Have to add how unbelievably supportive the Effenbert-Liberty team has been, feels like family. The best. And a huge thank you to all the track-side and medical centre staff for their time and attention to Brett following his crash."
