TT 2012: 'I just wasn't quick enough' - William Dunlop

Wilson Craig Honda's William Dunlop has admitted he simply wasn't fast enough in today's opening Monster Supersport TT but he still managed to finish on the podium behind team-mate Cameron Donald and winner Bruce Anstey in one of the closest races in the event's history.

Dunlop was right on the pace in the early stages and then started to slip back but a retirement by brother Michael and Gary Johnson slowing to walking pace - eventually having to push the bike over the line - meant he inherited the final rostrum slot.

"I just was not quick enough. The bike was flying and the boys have done a great job with it. I was very nervous before the start of today's race, and I got very tired nearing the end of the four laps to be honest," said Dunlop.

"I am a bit disappointed with third place, but very glad to have a first proper TT podium. The pace was hot at the front, so much so that I did not know that Michael (Dunlop) had retired on lap three. I was getting some very strange boards out and around the circuit, some with P7 and P8 on them, and I was not even sure if they where for me or not. It's great to have both Wilson Craig's bikes on the podium, and well done to Bruce Anstey on his win."
