Michael Dunlop admitted he didn't think he'd win a race at the Isle of Man TT this week after a week fraught with problems. Dunlop, who took his third TT win with victory in Wednesday's second Supersport race, switched from Suzuki to Yamaha for the middleweight division class during practice week but promptly blew an engine on the R6.

He then blew a head gasket on his Honda Superbike so was forced to ride his Superstock Kawasaki for the opening Superbike race eventually finishing in tenth. Things got worse when he broke down whilst leading the first Supersport race.

His week improved when he took second in the Superstock race after charging through the field on the final lap and sponsor Gary Ryan managed to build him a new engine for the second Supersport race. Once brother William retired, Michael was never headed and he ran out a comfortable winner from Aussie Cameron Donald.

“I can’t believe it,” said Dunlop after the race. “I’ve had nothing but trouble this week and I’ve lost count of how much money we’ve spent on engines so I can’t say enough about the boys in the team, they’ve worked their absolute backsides off. The air breather came off on the first lap, first gear wasn't quite right and Cameron closed up at one stage but when I saw “P1 +5’ on my board, I thought ‘right, let’s show these boys how I operate’. I knew I had the pace so rode smooth, nursed the bike and everything was beautiful. Having had so many problems though, I felt the bike blow up about ten times on the last lap so to get a win is a really great feeling!”
