PTR Honda's Sam Lowes has taken yet another World Supersport provisional pole position, this time at Misano, but has two-time champion Kenan Sofuoglu and veteran Broc Parkes in close attendance.
Lowes set a 1'38.987 to be the only rider under the 1'39s mark but Sofuoglu and Parkes are both only two-tenths behind the Lincolnshire man while his team-mate Jules Cluzel, who led the session early on, slipped down to the outside of the front row.
"After the first place at Donington it was good to be fastest today too and I'm looking forward to tomorrow. We're in good spirits and everything is working well. There was a little bit of rain before the second session so I took it a bit steady at the start but it was a really good qualifying with very consistent lap times. We've got a couple of things we want to work on but we've got a really good direction after making a good step after this morning, so we're confident," said Lowes.
Stefano Cruciani hopped into a slightly surprising fifth place late on with Fabien Foret, Alex Baldolini and Ronan Quarmby behind him. Vito Iannuzzo and Roberto Tamburini round out the top ten with Britain's Martin Jessopp in 26th.
Former 125cc World Champion Gabor Talmasci has taken time out from his new rallying career for a one-off ride at the Italian circuit. He sits in 16th place on the Prorace Honda and is 2.1s off the pace.
