After being protested by Aprilia, Marco Melandri has been fined £2370 (€3000) because his mechanics were adjudged to be working on his bike after the three-minute board had been shown at the rain-lashed Silverstone World Superbike race two.
Although Melandri's crew weren't alone – Aprilia, among others, were doing the same thing – they were the only ones to be protested so Melandri takes the fine, which will be paid by the team, and gets a written warning on top.
"On Sunday 5 August 2012, after the second race of the FIM Superbike World Championship in Silverstone (GBR), the Race Direction decided to sanction rider Marco Melandri (Italy) with a written warning and a fine of EUR 3,000.00 for infringement of Art. 1.19.7 (on the starting grid, all adjustments must be completed by display of the 3 minutes board)," said an FIM statement.
"An appeal was lodged against this decision to the FIM Stewards, who confirmed the decision and the sanctions. The decision is final."
