Germany WSBK: Davies takes debut win as Brits dominate

Parkingo Aprilia's Chaz Davies has taken his debut World Superbike win in the second Nurburgring race this afternoon which saw British riders occupy the top five spots and title challengers Max Biaggi and Marco Melandri crash.

Melandri was leading Tom Sykes but at just after half-distance, he lost the front for the second time today and leaves Germany without scoring a single point. Biaggi re-mounted from his off to finish in 13th and now has a lead of 9.5 points over Melandri while Sykes, who eventually finished in fifth after another early challenge faded away, is 17 point in arrears.

Welshman Davies got a flying start and was away with Melandri and Sykes, inheriting second when the Italian crashed and then passing Sykes and riding away from the Huddersfield man to take a deserved first victory.

Jonathan Rea re-bounded from his first-race crash to finish in fourth with Sykes completing the top five. Carlos Checa staved off a challenge by Althea Ducati team-mate Davide Guigliano to take sixth with Loris Baz, Ayrton Badovini and Sylvain Guintoli rounding out the top ten.

Leon Haslam crashed out a matter of minutes after his works BMW team-mate.
