Guy Martin made it two wins from two starts on Saturday afternoon when he dominated the Supersport 600cc race, the first leg of the David Jefferies Cup.
Having won his earlier heat, the 30-year old grabbed the holeshot going into Mere Hairpin and had a gap of over a second after the first lap alone. From there on in, he added a second to his lead each lap and was able to ease off towards the end of the 8 laps to eventually cross the line 6.298s clear of Dean Harrison.
Harrison won his heat also, after thrilling 6-rider battle, but had no answer to Martin although he lost ground in the first two laps as he tried to find a way past the fast starting Michael Pearson. Once by, he pulled away for a comfortable second but the battle for third went all the way to the end of the race as Pearson, Dan Frear and William Dunlop fought tooth and nail. Frear looked like he had the position sewn up but Pearson had other ideas and edged him out on the run in to the line.
Dunlop was close behind in fifth and after James Cowton crashed out at Mere on the penultimate lap, Bruce Anstey came through for sixth after a race long battle with Ivan Lintin. Dave Hewson, Seamus Elliott and Mark Goodings rounded out the top ten.
