BMW's Leon Haslam once again suffered problems with Pirelli's sticky qualifying tyre during World Superbike Superpole at Magny-Cours this afternoon, having to use two in quick succession to make sure of a spot in the final session.
The move left Haslam, who is in discomfort with an injured right hand which is hampering his braking performance, with no qualifiers left for the final session and had to settle for a second-row slot achieved with a race tyre.
“For most of the year we struggled with the qualifying tyre. When today I had massive issues with my first qualifier in Superpole ywo, I decided to not waste any time as we needed to make sure of getting into the top eight. So I used the other qualifying tyre with which we managed to get into Superpole three," said Haslam.
"That meant I had no qualifying tyre left for the final section, so it was difficult but I am happy with the second row. Our race pace is good. I think the weather might take a turn tomorrow – which is the norm this season. We really need to try and anticipate the weather. If it is going to be similar to the past two days I am feeling pretty confident with it all.”
