Delves digs deep for second in Fab Racing title chase

Riding a Metrakit GP 70cc machine talented Stechford youngster Liam Delves claimed the runner up spot in the 2012 Fab-Racing British Championship at the tender age of 11 years.

Despite his success the season has not been without its problems for the Smiths Wood Sports College student who was taken out in the first round by another rider, thus missing out on a point scoring position in the opening race. Then an engine failure during morning warm-up for round three saw him again score no points.

In an effort to keep his season in full swing Liam gratefully accepted the offer of a loan bike with a 50cc engine for the remainder of the weekend’s racing. Although he knew he would be at a disadvantage racing against the more powerful 70cc machines Liam gave it his best shot but dropped down the rider standings from second to fifth.

Back on his own machine for the next round he rode well completing the three races in an overall second place which moved him back up to third and another strong performance in round five moved him back to second overall.

But there was more bad luck to come as a technical issue resulted in a non score in round six and then a crash in qualifying for round seven saw the unlucky young rider having to race with the discomfort of a broken finger.

Going into the final round of the 2012 championship Liam was holding third place and 15 points away from the rider in second. Knowing his final position depended on his results Liam was determined to end his season on a high note and did just that by taking pole position and winning all three races to claim second place in the championship.

Liam would like to thank: Virgo Composites Ltd, PT Signs, Nasty Paint, Gettagged, Putoline Oils, Wiz Sliders, Sonic Communications (Int) Ltd, Scott Leathers, Arai Helmets, Jon Wishart, Fab-Racing, Dyno Tourqe, Ian Brookman at Academy GP, Bikers World, Birmingham and all friends and supporters for their help as without them it would be impossible for him to continue.

Now he has turned 12 Liam is eligible for an ACU racing licence and will spend 2013 riding the Metrakit GP 80cc machine in the Formula 125 class with the North Gloucester club and also ride in the same class with Derby Phoenix to gain track time and learn his way around the bigger circuits in preparation for moving upwards and onwards with his racing career.
