Alstare Ducati's Carlos Checa missed both days of unofficial World Superbike testing at Phillip Island after being taken to hospital with a blocked intestine.
The former champion will be cursing his luck as if any rider and bike package needed track time it is the Spaniard and the new Ducati Panigale, which has had virtually no testing after thr previous three-day test at Jerez was washed out.
Checa is expected to take part in the next set of tests which commence on Tueday. It was also bad news for his team-mate Ayrton Badovini, who was also taken to hospital after a big highside at Lukey Heights.
"It is unfortunate that Carlos couldn’t ride at all. He suffered some sort of stomach problem the day after he arrived in Australia. Possibly it was something to do with jet-lag, the air-conditioning on the plane and the change of temperature. He went to hospital, but there are no big problems and we expect him to be back for the tests next week and then the race afterwards," said team boss Francis Batta.
