Fixi Suzuki rider Leon Camier led for most of the World Superbike second qualifying practice session at Phillip Island, but was toppled off top spot by Red Devils Roma 'sMichel Fabrizio in the closing stages who had another solid session and clocked his best lap time of 1’30.387 to head all three periods so far.
Camier led the way for the other Brit riders with an impressive time of 1’30.727 and was the first man to go under Carlos Checa's 2011 pole lap record, made more impressive by recording a top speed of 188mph compared to the Aprilia's 199mph.
Also during the final minutes, Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes found some pace and clocked his best lap of the day of 1’30.740. Northern Irish Factory Aprilia rider Eugene Laverty was hot on the heels of Sykes and finished the session with a time of 1’30.826. Goldbet BMW's Marco Melandri completed the top five and early leader Sylvain Guintoli was sixth.
The other British riders had a solid session too; Pata Honda’s Leon Haslam and team-mate Jonathan Rea were seventh and ninth respectively with Carlos Checa in the sandwich. Welshman Chaz Davies ended up in the gravel in the last minutes of the session and finished just outside the top ten.
